Dr. Reginald DesRoches, Associate Chair and Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech, recently wrote a guest column for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about infrastructure systems in the United States, and the related research and technologies that are critical to compete in a globalized world.
DesRoches writes about the critical juncture our nation is facing in terms of deteriorating infrastructure systems, and compares that to other countries around the world, looking at the investment, research and the technology required to meet 21st century needs. "If America wants to remain a global economic leader, we cannot simply patch crumbling infrastructure or build more of the same. We must invest in research, technology, education and training that creates contemporary, energy-efficient, adaptive and sustainable infrastructure systems", according to DesRoches. He writes that today our nation has "the opportunity to reshape the foundation of our society as our children and their children will know it". To read the complete article, visit here
